Slight intermittent grinding noise from front left wheel 200 1989

Replaced rotors, calipers, wheel bearings and dust shield back in November. After going through the local car wash a couple of weeks ago, the 240 developed a light grinding noise around 40 mph. It will suddenly and completely disappear after driving over 60mph for a minimum 10 minutes, only to reappear after coming to a stop. There is no fixed pattern here. It can vary in intensity at any speed. The grinding doesn't always disappear at highway speeds and it can reappear at any speed below 40 miles, but not usually until after I have stopped.
The rims are nova 15in alloys. I have jacked up the car, spun the tire and checked for debris between the dust shield and rotor and could not detect any problem with the calipers. I was thinking that it could be a rock or something wedged between the rim and rotor. But if that was the case, I would expect the noise be constant.
Yea I'm lazy and haven't taken the tire off yet.
My excuse is the cold temperatures and an ear infection. With a little more time maybe I could come up with a better one... When I do remove the wheel in a day or two, I'm wondering if there is something else I should be looking for?
