hissing accompanies loss of power while accelerating 200 1986

happened intermittantly at first, getting worse now. When I press the accelerator, i hear a hissing noise from the front of car, seems to be pass side. the louder the hiss, the bigger the loss of power. can't get it to make noise unless it's driving. Sounds like a vacuum leak (?) but only on accelerating. Any ideas? Thanks for reading.
