Snow tires - 2 or 4? 200 1991

I'm a relatively new Volvo 240 owner. I really like the car and didn't notice any difference going from a front wheel drive vehicle to rwd . . . until winter came. It is terrible. Terrible. It spins/fishtails out of control all the time on easy, slow turns and god forbid you hit the brakes when there is snow on the road and the car is moving over 5mph. Then today, going maybe 30 in a 55 I hit a patch of slush and ended up in a ditch. I know it is not me or my driving, b/c I have been driving in severe winter conditions for many years and never had such issues with control. From what I've read it seems like the problem is that the 240 rwd's need snow tires. So my questions are: (1)is the problem that it doesn't have snow tires? (2)if it does need the snow tires does it need just 2 on the rear, or all 4? and (3) what brand is best? Thanks in advance for any advice . . .
