Odd Headlight Problem 200 1978

Hi. I had a problem a little while back. No lights. Got advice to replace the light switch and everything returned to normal. In the last couple weeks the lights have been acting up again but with a little fiddling of the switch would come back on. Now I have to really work to get headlights, so I took out the switch and observed a somewhat melted plug at the end of the switch and a little burned away insulation on one of the wires. Any ideas on why this would happen?
