Hello All,
I'd say about 1/3 of the repair projects I embark on for the first time, I screw up. I'm not exactly sure why. Sometimes it's carelessness, sometimes it's lack of knowledge or the Bentley or other reference isn't clear. Sometimes I'm just unlucky. I'm not sure what excuse I'm going to use for this one but this morning I replaced the parking brake shoes but had a problem.
Began to take it for a ride and both wheels locked up within 20 feet. I had a heck of a time just getting it back in the garage so I could tear things apart. I hope I don't have trouble getting the rotors off.
Here's what I did: I loosened the 17mm parking brake adjuster in the center console. I removed the calipers and rear rotors exposing the parking brake assembly. I removed the springs and brought the old shoes (there was no friction material left) and springs to the workbench. I swapped in new shoes and re-installed the position bar and small spring and placed the new assembly (I thought) exactly where the old one was. I then installed the long spring and reinstalled calipers, rotor and wheel.
Where did I go wrong? Thanks in advance for your help.
Marty Wolfson
P.S. I'd like to do this only one more time.
