So, after nearly five months of not driving the 240 because of sudden and severe bucking and power loss, I gave it a go this afternoon for old time's sake. Much to my surprise the car started and drove fine for a near 40 mile open road journey. Very few instances of power loss and no bucking.

However, near home I noticed a bit of bucking, but chalked it up to poor driving on my part (5 sp.) Then, after having the car sit for 20-30 minutes while I checked some email, I took it out for a two-minute jaunt next door to look for my father. On that short 1/2 mile trip the car bucked and lost power (while under 3/4 gas pedal depression) dramatically. Had I been on a public road I would have needed to pull over due to the inability to accelerate. Also, while up to speed in 3rd and/or 4th gear (30-40 mph) I noticed that after any deceleration or coasting (basically anything besides accelerating), the subsequent acceleration would be greeted with a loud thud from the undercarriage. Additionally, I noticed that while under slight acceleration from 30 to 40 (roughly) there would be frequent, but non-constant pinches in power, literally like someone was squeezing the fuel delivery lines.

That said, the car was parked with the hypothesis that the in-tank fuel pump was not working correctly or at all so my question now is why would the car drive well for the first trip out of hibernation, but drive so poorly (and downright dangerously) only 20 minutes later? Was something unplugged due to setting and then clogged again? I have very limited knowledge but that's the only idea I could arise at.
