My to do list from four years ago is now done. Installed a set of EBay FCP Ecodes this afternoon in about two hours start to finish. One of Inga's lights had seal failure, it has been six years since I did Dave Shannon's fix on them. The passengers side lens was cracked and it was time for a new headlight.
The fit was very good, in fact after reading all the posts that came up in the search box, I was pleasantly surprised. The only shimming I had to do was the chrome eyebrows, they stuck out to far from my taste so added a 1/4 in nylon stand off to both sides and the look is greatly improved..
Used new High Temp H4 connectors from AutoZone instead of using the two connectors that came with the lights. The back of this connector is sealed and has nice heavy duty wires.
Since I had already added relays that get the headlight voltage off the back of the alternator. The job went a lot faster, just sliced and crimped the new connectors, and then double checked it all before mounting them to the car. That one lower nut on the passengers side was a PITA as many others have noted. Dropped three before I got a nut to catch.
For rough adjusting the headlights found that a 1/4 thumb wheel drive a deep socket 13 mm make it a breeze. Did have to lube up the threads on the adjusters, they were way too tight at first. Plan to use the same trick on the fine tune.
This completes my headlight improvement that started with getting the moisture out, changing to silverstars, adding relays to remove the voltage drop, and the most recent improvement the adjustable voltage regulator (set at 14.2 volts). All were big improvements to the amount of light out ahead of you and the road signs were all well light up. But with the ECodes the amount of light headed downrange is even more of an improvement that I expected. They do also look really good with the clear glass and the retro yellow side markers.
Well off to a wall for the final fine tune adjustment, this is a nice BB Mod folks.
Regards,
Paul
