Replacing Head--1993 960 wagon 900

There is a local car with a broken timing belt (960 wagon). Without pulling the head, it is impossible to determine the level of damage, but if the long block has survived, how difficult is it to swap heads? My biggest concern is the need for specialized tools.

I'd also thought about using this car as a 5.0 V8 conversion. I can't see offering any more than salvage value--especially considering the unknowns in the engine. The owner is clearly not going to fix it, and it has been for sale for some time.

I probably need a project like a need a hole in my head, but...
