Zenith VN36 carb rebuild 120-130

I am in the process of rebuilding my VN36 carb and want to know if anyone can offer advice on correcting distortion on the carb body.

There are a few areas of concern.

The top spigot (that the air filter tube attaches to) is out of round - presumably where someone was a bit heavy handed with tightening the clamp. The bottom is out of round also (where the throttle goes). Both of these seem straight forward enough - I just plan to make some clamping jigs to gently push things back into shape.

The part I am not so sure of is the right angle between the horizontal plane that the float bowl bolts up to and the vertical flat face that the emulsion block beak protrudes through. These look like they should be at 90° to each other but they are slightly more - when the float bowl is offered up it is tight at the top of the emulsion block face but there is a 20 thou gap at the bottom of that face. There are gaskets on both faces but only the float bowl gasket is clamped tight by screws. The other gasket will be pretty ineffective given the difference in angle between the two faces. Should I attempt to bend the carb body to make these faces square or is it not going to matter? Another possability is to make a thin wedge shaped shim and fit it with sealant and a gasket either side.
