No start, low battery voltage, solenoid clicks with no key in ignition 900

Hi folks!

Two weeks ago I started my 940 at night with no problem but noticed within 1000 feet that my instrument and headlights were very dim. By the time I could find a safe place to pull over it was another 1/2 mile. When I stopped, the engine was stumbling and just about ready to die. I tapped the accelerator and instantly, the whole car came alive. Instrument and headlights were at full intensity and the engine hummed. No problems since.

Today, I start the car and pull it out of the garage – 200 feet max. Turn the ignition off. Five minutes later, back in the car and it won't start. And even after I take the key out of the ignition, I can hear the solenoid intermittently clicking. That's never happened before. Battery voltage is at 11.8. When I crank the engine, voltage drops to 6.5.

I'm charging the battery now, but I know there's got to be more to my problem. Where do I start?

Thanks so much!

Roger
