Hi All,
I just recently purchased an OBDII/CAN scanner. Just for kicks this morning, I hooked it up to the 960, which I had not started in several weeks. After having an issue with the alarm, which kept going off (when I realized the hood was up, triggering the sensor.)Since the battery had been disconnected, I knew there would be no codes set.
Now, I have an ongoing issue with a miss on one cylinder for a few seconds after starting. I know that the PO replaced one coil, and then I had #5 die on me one afternoon leaving work. I moved both replacement coils to #6 and #5. The other 4 coils are 14 year old originals, some have cracks in the boots, some do not.
The oil has fuel in it, I can smell it plainly.
Back to the scanner...
I hooked it up, let it link, and since I have a live data function, started the car. It missed as usual, but I have noticed it will miss repeatedly, then run ok for a second, miss again, than smooth out. The entire episode probably lasts 1.5 minutes in total.
Scanner says no codes, live data says "O2SII, CL, faulty", I'm pretty sure CL means Closed Loop. The values data for the voltage on the sensor looks like it floats somewhere around .833 to .883 or so, which to me, looks like full rich. The fact the scanner also says the sensor is in closed loop immediately, looks like a failed heater, but maybe I am wrong about that.
Both O2 sensors are the originals...as far as I know.
Based on these observations, I conclude that either I have a weak coil(s), or am leaking coolant past the head gasket (of which I see NO evidence of), or a leaky injector(s), or bad intake gasket that's not sealing. Obviously, The front O2 is gone or contaminated. Interestingly enough, the computer NEVER sets off the MIL light. Never has in the last two years of owning the car.
I guess it's time to take it in to have the car fully diagnosed. At 135K, I don't know if the car is worth dumping a lot of money into. I'm worried the diag will cost more money to do than I think. The body and interior are in good/fair shape.
I am losing water, I have to refill the coolant bottle once a month, sometimes more if it is hot outside. The car never overheats. You'll never see coolant on the ground.
The valve cover is seeping all the way around itself as well. Not dripping yet, but it will sooner or later.
Any suggestions, comments, will welcome a sound beating from those who see that I don't take very good care of the car:)
