1995 940 Sudden Stalls 900 1995

The '95 940 which I purchased new and gave to my son about 6 years ago is about to come (limp) home to roost. He had it shipped from Atlanta to San Francisco where he has been driving it for the past 2 years. It has 145K miles on it and has started to suddenly die when he is driving. It always happens either at idle or when he lets off the gas to slow down or stop. He took it to a local dealer who installed a mass air meter and some misc. hoses. Unfortunately, the 'fix' didn't fix the problem and it continues to stall. He has taken it back to the dealer to re-diagnose/fix the problem. However, he has lost confidence in the car and is shopping for a replacement vehicle.

My question is this...if I go through the trouble to have it shipped back to the East Coast, what issues should I anticipate having to deal with over the next couple of years? I meticulously maintained the car (109K) miles before he took it over, and I believe that he has changed the oil and performed necessary repairs. He only drives about 5-6K miles per year.

Any thoughts on the stalling issue, and would it be advisable to get this car back into the home stable? I usually have to rely on indie mechanics or local dealer to get work done.

Thanks for your advice.
