Car shut off after going into a 360 spin.

This evening I had the sheer terror of going into a 360 spin in an intersection after sliding on a wet road. To make a long story short, I fortunately came to a dead stop. After gathering my wits about me I realized the car had shut off. Does anyone have any idea why that would happen? Is there a sensor some where that detects the car is about to get into an accident and shuts the engine off? I'd be grateful for any ideas on the matter.
