I purchased a quart of lube for the gearbox (thanks Sil), then I checked the book which says 3.4 pints (M-41 with D-type) - typical! Inadequate clearance between the gearbox & transmission tunnel to fill through the check & fill plug on the trans, so I thought I'd remove the stick shift & fill through the top. I know the lubricant flows through the transmission into the O/D unit and that there is a separate drain plug for the O/D. Stupid questions start here...
Should I remove the fill & check plug on the trans, then fill until the oil runs out? Or should I leave the plug in place, pour in the specified amount and forget about it? Should I pour in the 3.4 pts, then come back a while later and check the fill level at the transmission plug? Maybe I'm thinking too much about this.
Appreciate your patience,
