K-Jet pump relay question 200 1979

I've got a question for the wise folks on the board.

I let my 244 sit for a couple of days last week, and when I went out
to drive to work one morning it cranked but wouldn't start. Couldn't
hear the pumps running, so I checked the fuses. Both OK, twisted them
both a bit to make sure oxidation wasn't doing any evil. Still no start.

Pulled the relay out and popped the cover off to check the solder joints,
everything looked beautiful in there. Still no pumps, no start.

On a hunch, I bought a new relay from BAP/GEON here in town and plugged
it in. Started right up, but now comes my question. While it's running,
I can hear and feel the relay clicking. I don't ever remember hearing it
before, so is this normal? I wiggled the signal wire connection at the
coil and it didn't seem to affect the clicking, pulled it off and the engine
started to die so I know it's working.

I'm thinking now that I may have an intermittent ground going to the relay.

Has anyone encountered "the click" before, or is it just a disturbance
in "the Force"?

Thanks in advance!
