1985 240 DL Dies on acceleration 200

Hi All,

Not sure where to start with this one (I searched the FAQ and have checked the items that came up). My daughter pulled up to a stop light and on the green pushed the accelerator and the car died. She restarted, gave it gas and it died. Repeated this 40 times or so until she got it off the road.

The car starts great and then dies as soon as the accelerator is touched or it is put into gear. If the car is in park and the accelerator is advanced VERY slow the RPM’s come up fine. Even at around 2000 RPM (no tach) if I goose the accelerator the engine stumbles and dies. If I get off the gas before the RPM’s drop to low it will go to an idle. The engine always restarts great. Same results with the AMM unplugged.

There is power to both fuel pumps and they are running at normal noise levels. I did jumper #4 and #6 to test with the same results. Fuel tank is half full (or half empty, I have a half full attitude!).

I replaced the FPR with one off a running car and this did not help. All tune-up parts have about 5000 miles on them. Last winter I rebuilt the engine wire harness (all soldered connections). The 25 amp fuse holder was also replaced. I have cleaned all grounds and battery connections.

Exhaust is new from cat back and appears to be flowing free. Intake hoses and all vacuum lines are new last winter and do not leak. Injector connectors are clean as are the rest of the connectors under the hood. Intake manifold gasket does not leak.

Thanks for any ideas.

Best Regards,
Mike
