Driveshaft conversion center bearing support issues 140-160

I think I've encountered some fitment issues that some warned about here. I'm putting in a 2" driveshaft to complete the M41 conversion on my '68. The driveshaft, center bearing, and rubber support all came from a '72. My old driveshaft was 1.75" diameter and has the smaller center bearing, rubber support, and bracket.

I've tried to fit the larger rubber support into my smaller tunnel, but there's way to much material to try and cram it all up there and get the bracket on. I'm also constrained to use the larger center bearing, and I don't see a way to somehow enlarge the smaller rubber mount to fit the larger bearing without severely degrading the support. It seems like my only option is to try and cut down the larger rubber support to fit my tunnel, but it looks like I'd have to remove so much material, that the outer circle of rubber would be completely gone, again, degrading the support significantly.

What methods have others used to get a later rubber support to fit into an earlier, smaller tunnel?
