driving on an empty/dry engine (no oil) -- thoughts? 200

LONG STORY SHORT, I drove waaaaay too far on a completely dry, unlubricated engine, because I forgot to replace the filler cap today. Maybe because i'm an idiot, I'm not sure (maybe it was that kid at the gas station, maybe he unscrewed it when I went in to wash my hands...). Anyways, i refilled the sucker and it feels fine, sounds fine, nothing too wierd, no strange noises. So is it cool, or is it a ticking time bomb? The engine was ENTIRELY empty of oil when I realized my folly. I've heard about this happening a lot, but it's hard to search for this subject on this board. Just let me know what you think, if you don't mind.
THANK YOU

and what to do about all that oil all over the engine/compartment --- just keep cleaning it via rags, or does that engine degreaser stuff make good work of it?
