ICU, power stage question 200

I know there is the ignition module or power stage in the engine compartment. Then there is the Ignition control unit, located near the ECU under dash. I haven't been able to find any reference at the 2 parts guys I look at. And a search here yields litle.

I have bosch # 0227400169 from a 92 240 and I wonder if it works in the 89 or my 940
