Hello, I am new to this forum and would like to post a question. I have a 1985 740 Turbo Wagon with 380,000km. I bought it as a no-start, but a more powerful boost and a new battery solved it at first. Then, I noticed a hiccup, or jerking on the highway and in town. It was random at first, feeling like an engine miss, but it got longer and longer until it was cutting the engine out for 10 seconds at a time. Then I would turn the key off, wait a sec, and it would restart again, until it did the same thing a few km's down the road. We have since replaced the injectors, cap, rotor, wires, plugs, new gel-cell battery, tried a new coil(but returned it) tested the fuel pups to both be functional, put in a new fuel pup relay, and a used mass air flow sensor, or power stage, although I suspect it was faulty. Then I parked it for a couple days, and then it would only stay started for a few seconds before dying, but it always restarted until last week when it decided it will not start at all, no matter how much you crank it or boost it. One interesting incident was that when I unplugged the mass air flow sensor, the car would idle for as long as I left it, but when you try to rev the engine, it would die but catch itself again if you let go of the gas. My question would be then; should I buy a new mass air flow sensor/power-stage(and does it matter which quality level(NAPA or Volvo), or is it more likely to be another issue altogether? Input is appreciated as I am currently driving my gas-guzzling 1980 GMC half-ton on my 50km commute to work.
