Cold/hot start stalling solved 92 245 200 1992

Initially, I took the approach of sending a spare set of fuel injectors off to be cleaned and flow tested as I suspected the injectors in the car were leaking. Well, the "rebuilt" injectors arrived and were in a badly damaged box, I installed them and the car ran on three cylinders (one dead injector). Out of necessity, I put the original injectors back in the car and drove it for two weeks, same problem... stalling at idle on startup before the O2 sensor heated up.

I contemplated buying new injectors (cost prohibitive) and buying a used set off of Ebay for cheap and having them cleaned. I finally decided to do the cheapest and easiest thing I could do, it's called a bottle of Techron fuel injector cleaner poured into a full tank of gas. By the time the fuel gauge read half full, the car didn't stall anymore at startup but stumbled a bit. By the time the tank was near empty, the startup idle stumble was greatly reduced!

Not being fully satisfied with the result although being quite happy about it, I filled the tank half full of gas and poured one more bottle of Techron into the tank. After my wife drove the car for a week, the tank was near empty (it is my job to fill it), so I hopped in, started the car and it idled perfectly! No surging idle, no stall, simple perfection! I put a full fresh tank of gas in the tank and the car is still running great!

As a result, if you have startup stalling issues and the appropriate code, try using Techron fuel injector cleaner BEFORE considering the replacement of the injectors! Of course step one for this "disorder" is to check for vacuum leaks!
