Okay so I'm putting this B230F N/A engine together that I'm rebuilding (for a '93 244) and since this is my first experience with this variety of the redblock I've ran into a small problem. I'm making nice visible timing marks for the crank gear, the cam gear, but I can't figure out where the mark goes for the intermediate shaft gear. The only redblocks that I've worked on before this is B23's and these are a little different. I tried checking in the Bentley manual but it shows a mark like what's on the B23 style but there's not a notch or bump or anything like that on the timing belt cover backing plate. I can't for the life of me figure this out. Could someone please tell me the trick to this? Also, another thing that's kind of got me baffled is the distributor hold down bolt. It goes through the slotted hole in the housing but it also has this plastic piece that fills the slot with a round hole that holds the bolt in one position. How are you supposed to fine tune the timing if you can't rotate the distributor? Thanks in advance.
