Cylinder Head Gasket Holes Don't Match Up 200 1993

This normally aspirated 93/240 had what appeared to be a blown cylinder head gasket. I just pulled the head and sure enough the gasket is shot. Here's the thing. There are holes in the block (I assume for coolant) that don't exist on the cylinder head. Is that normal for these cars?

BTW, sorry about the confusing subject line. I noticed this because I pulled the head gasket off the block to confirm a head gasket failure and noticed white residue (burnt coolant) on spots on the gasket.
