I've been refurbing one of the not-impale-your-chest steering box/shaft assemblies for installation into my '67. When I picked it up from a parts pile it only had one of the "pins" that goes through the small bushings which link the two halves of the shaft.
Seems they are available from Volvo, with the new bushing and sleeve, but at a cost of about $30 each. I've already got a pair of the IPD poly bushings on hand.
My plan was to simply cut the head off a shoulder bolt and turn the end down to match the taper on the OEM one I have. But, I can't find a shoulder bolt with quite the same outside diameter. A 3/8" shoulder fits pretty well with virtually no slop, but isn't quite as tight of a fit as the OEM one through the bushing.
I guess plan B is to go up to the next diameter of shoulder bolt, and ream out the bushing holes to provide a nice tight fit. But before I do that, I figured I'd ask if anyone has any better ideas, or maybe even has one in a parts bin somewhere?
