I inherited a 1999 GMC Sonoma (S-10) with 53k miles. I'm thinking of selling it so I can do a partial restoration on my 91 240 with 195k miles. The Sonoma already has a history of significant repairs such as A/C compressor, alternator, etc, and the forums report frequent auto transmission failures around 50k miles. The 240 mainly needs a new muffler and tailpipe and a new heater control valve (the timing belt has 20k miles on it.) The upper body surfaces also need some kind of respray because of peeling clearcoat. Replaced the radiator and brakes last year. Does anybody have any knowledge of Sonoma/S-10 truck reliability vs 240?
