No crank, Is the starter bad? 200 1993

My in-laws 93 240 ran fine all day. Then they tried to start it again and no crank. Battery is good. I can hear a click under the hood when my father-in-law tried again to start it, but no crank of course. I tapped the starter with a metal rod but nothing. What else should I look for? The starter is only 6 months old.
