Steering rack interchangeability between years? 200 1989

Hi all, we're trying to replace a steering rack in an '89 245. It looks to be original, and a CAM type rack with a number of 34007139LH.

We have what appears to be a used zf steering rack from a later year to replace the original rack.

How interchangeable are these racks between types and 240 years? We don't want to commit to replacement until we know it will fit. Power steering hookups appear to be in slightly different places and we're not sure if the spline connecting to the steering U-joint is the same diameter or not.
