Heater refurb FAQ 73 145 200 1973

I flagged this as "200" since I believe that the heaters from 73 on are like the ones in
the early 240s.
You know how one thing leads to another.... I changed trannies and had to pull up the carpet
to install the new shifter boot, which included loosening the center console.
So before putting it back in I decided I might as well go ahead and bite the bullet
and work on the heater. I have a 76 240 heater in the attic as a parts donor.
Mine leaks water and the fan motor is frozen so it really is time for a general rehab.
Might even refurb the AC portion of it in case I decide to throw my feet out this summer
and redo the AC.
So I've got most of the dash out around the heater and have unbolted brackets under it,
but the heater still seems to be pretty tightly mounted. I'm already pretty stiff from
pushing the tranny up and in yesterday, somewhat of a job for a guy my age.
I've seen the 240 heaters cussed and discussed in this forum -
is there any good sequence of instructions for taking the heater out and putting it back in
with minimal destruction?
Many thanks for any help you can provide.
