regine pressure regulator 700

my regina pressure started to go bad,hard start-poor fuel mileage. thinking that all pressure regulator were the same i installed a bosch pressure regulator on a regina system.thanks to a friend,he insure me that was wrong way to go. at groton,the tech told me it would not run. after installing the bosch regulator on a regina system,the 740 ran great but gave me poor gas mileage. i order a regina regulator and it on its way. now,please tell me the differents in the two regulators and why cant they be interchangeable?
