25 amp fuse! WTF 200 1988

'88 240 automatic. Drove 1 hour to LAX, parked for four days, get back, car just cranks and cranks. No start! Pull 25 amp fuse, cleaned, still no start. Check fuses in fuse box, all looked good. Put spare 25 amp fuse in under the hood, and car fires right up. Man, that would have sucked being stuck in long term parking at LAX on a Sunday night! Anyway, what exactly does that fuse control and what makes it go bad? What should I be looking out for? Thanks, guys!
