951 ECU for 561 ECU swap possible? 200 1989

ok. In rehabing a 89 GL I have been through two of the "Pink" 561 ECU's. I currently have the third running, but am very nervous about passing this car onto my father currently. Is it possible to do a 951 swap in the 240s (I believe this is possible in the 740s from the same year...) and are they indeed more reliable as the successor to the 561...?
