1990 740 Speedo / Odo don't work 700

I bought this car recently and the speedo and odo do not function.

Everything else works on the dash.

Since both were not working I suspected the wiring near the rear axle sender.

Sure enough the wires looked awful, corroded and falling apart.

I cut them back, re-crimped and taped them and still nothing.

I tried the wires in the opposite socket just in case, still no odo/speedo.

I checked the resistance of the sender and got 845ohms.

I checked the wires and found the same resistance so I presume the connection is good enough.

Now the question is this; is my sender bad? I read a post regarding a 240 where the Bentley manual specified somewhere around 3000ohms for the sender resistance. I don't have a Bentley manual for my 740 and haven't found the specification for it.

I know about the small gear in the dash but before I go tearing into that I would like to confirm that the sender is good. Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks!
