Gentlemen - your advice is always greatly appreciated. Here is my situation. I got a nice deal on a two owner 1993 945T with 190K, car is being shipped to St. Louis where I live. The gentleman I purchased it from owns an indie shop in Texas and the wagon was driven by his wife. According to him, maintenance is up-to-date, but since he commissioned his own employees to maintain it, he doesn't have any service records. I live in an apartment complex and am not able to work on the old lady myself, so my indie will be doing the initial inspection. I've read over the 700/900 FAQs to the letter, which places a strong emphasis on ensuring the cooling system is in tip-top shape. Here's my predicament: according to the seller, the hoses/components of the cooling system have been replaced. I want to be on top of everything, because I went through catastrophic coolant loss in the past and paid the price with a head gasket. It was pure hell. Do you all recommend I disregard what the seller is telling me and shell out some major cash to have the cooling components replaced, supposedly again, or should I just have everything inspected with the exception of such things as replacing the heater control valve/soldering fuel pump relay? There is a GREAT deal of money to be spent here, if I have everything done that's called for in the FAQs when, in this case, not everything may be necessary. Thanks.
