Is it normal for my '86 740 Turbo to ROAR to life at startup?
Starting is easy, and the engine rarely has to turn over more than three times to start, but it immediately revs up to almost 3000rpm before settling back to idle. It's almost as if I've stomped the accelerator to start it, and then removed my foot, except that I never touch the pedal. I just turn the key.
This mostly occurs when the engine is already to operating temp, I guess. I just went out to start it cold to see if I was imagining it, and there was no 'roaring to life.' It started normally. But she was roarin' just yesterday.
Any ideas? I've also got a modest rpm surge at idle. Brittle vacuum hoses, maybe? Could something be letting in too much air during a warm startup, and then ECU quickly compensates?
