I have been helping a friend repair his '66 122. Awhile back he lost a rear wheel cylinder and two weeks ago we did a complete brake job on the rears. Driving it a few days later on a parkway,he had to stop suddenly and swerve to avoid the car in front of him. Car stopped, no contact, but driving after that he noticed a strong pull to the left and accompanying knocking when applying the brakes. He limped to a place to park it and I had a look at it yesterday. The driver's side lower control arm took such force that it appears that the welded inserts in the crossmember through which the large bolts passes, tore those inserts from the crossmember and apart. Jacking the front end up I could actually move the A arm from side to side at the crossmember. It's also torn away at the rear of the crossmember. Now I guess this could be disassembled, realigned and re-welded, but I can't do that, here, now easily.
I'd like to find him a known GOOD unrusted crossmember and lower A arms, prep that with new bushings, and then just swap crossmembers and keep his upper arms, and everything outboard (uprights, brakes, etc.) replace the ball joints and idler arm bushing which had play before this happened.

Anybody have one off a car in decent shape? I know Chris probably has one on the other side of the country - hoping to find something we could pick up on the east coast - we're in the NYC area and can drive to you, within reason.

Also, I know that there are differences in crossmembers. We'd like to find one like what we've got, but what are the differences and year changes and identifying characteristics?

I've swapped one before (without the engine in the car and with a lift which made it easier), but how difficult is it to do with a floor jack and stands? I'm going to have to support the engine/trans with a beam across the fenders?, supported on..?
