Starter clicking and not turning - resolved? 200

This week one of my parts cars (slated to be put back on the road) wouldn't start. Starter clicked loudly but wouldn't engage. Changed battery, cleaned terminals, jumped - nothing. Cables etc all looked good

Pulled the started, inspected & cleaned. Would turn over but + battery cable got hot.

Removed - cable from block, wire-brushed, sprayed WD-40, reattached. Car turns rapidly and starts right up.

I deduce that there was corrosion (that I didn't see) where the - bat cable attached. I often have these kinds of problems with cars that sit around but this was the 1st time I couldn't see the trouble area visually - often it's the + cable at the starter.
