Howdy,
I recently had aspirations to hardwire an ipod dock into my 245. I got a cheapo cigarette adapter to USB charger and took it apart (grounded to chassis, positive to fuse box with in line fuse). then i took the ipod cable and connected it teh charger. and it works! that was cool, but my ultimate goal was to mount the little dock in the ash tray and run the cable from behind the ash tray into it. then i wouldnt have any dangling wire, and if i wanted to charge my ipod, i just pull out the ash tray and plop it in.

the problem is that the ash tray sits within a fully enclosed plastic housing in the center console. im apprehensive to drill a hole to feed the wire through.. can anyone tell me whats exactly behind there? Is this feasible? I can remove center console to an extent if need be.
