1990 240 disconnected D+ wire. Shoudnt idiot light come on?

Wire came loose twice, battery drained, leaving me with a no start condition. Once waiting in line for gas. Shouldnt I get a warning before this happens. Light did not come on. Idiot light shows good at pre start test.
I have repaired the wire end, but I dont understand this.
Thanks for any help.
