poor gas quality

if my volvo has sat for about 3-4 months with a start-up at least once a month, would it be reasonable for it to billow blue/gray/white smoke out the exhaust?
is that long enough for gas to destabilize? i thought maybe the rings were blown on account of the exhaust looking like oil was being burnt... compression is (although quite low) even, the fourth cyl is a little off from the rest... but would that be enough for a very large amount of smoke? another thing, i can't get that "smoke screen" to happen again, before i just needed to get the rpm's up and then it would happen, now that i've driven a bit and put more gas in it doesn't happen...

thanks,
aaron
