Can I drive with bad coolant expansion tank cap gasket? 1995 940 900

The coolant expansion tank cap gasket has partially broken. There is a one quarter inch chunk that severed. I believe this just happened when I removed the cap in my driveway. So I guess that means fluid would come out when the engine gets hot? I'm not really sure how all this functions but my question is: can I drive to the dealer to get a new cap or gasket? (3 miles). Or is this not big a deal? Thanks. Also the dealer wants $42 for the entire cap - I'd like to pay $1.00 for the gasket. Is that available? Or a makeshift one?
