ball joint replacement - inboard adjustment? 200 1988

I just replaced ball joints on my '88 244 DL.

I marked the old ball joint location before hand and the new ball joint is about 1/16"+ further outboard than the original.

I can not budge the wheel assembly to get the ball joint pushed inboard.

Suggestions?
