Snapped speedo cable end @ the Instrument panel- any advice ? 200 1982

Diving home yesterday from the city, the speedo cable broke after making lots of noise.Anyway the part the goes into the speedometer broke off flush & I cannot remove it unless I take the instrument pod out of the car.Is this a difficult or easy job ? Or should I just go onto eBay & get another Instrument pod ?
