Instrument panel swap woes---1986 745--HELP! 700 1986

Greetings all,

Swapped a VDO panel with an inop. speedo/odo out of my neighbor's 740 Wagon and replaced it with a Yazaki pulled from a junker. All worked fine EXCEPT the fuel gauge now reads in reverse. Regrettably, I don't have the wiring diagram--this was done as a favor; my ride is a newer 940.

2 questions:

- Any idea which wire(s) to swap to get it to read in the correct direction?

- Would this have precipitated an apparent alternator failure that happened last night, 3 days afer I swapped the panel?

Many thanks in advance for the help. Electrical gremlins are not my strong suit; give me anything forward of the firewall instead.
