Fun with headlight relays (or not) 200 1988

Hi all,
I've got my 88 240 wagon, 206k, here and I'm trying to solve a headlight problem. I've read the other posts on this and I'm not that good at wiring diagrams,(maybe its time I learned!). Anyway the problem is, I turn on the lights, nothing, brights work when held in, parking lights work, turn signals work, etc.. when I take out the relay by the drivers left foot, the lights will work, but none of the turn signal brake lights work. I've switched that driver's side relay with a "good" one, nothing. I think this sounds like the other post from awhile ago, but i haven't been able to figure it out. Where is that relay in the engine compartment?? and is there one in the center console?? Any ideas would help,
thanks,
CP
