Posting for a friend...
He was backing down a very steep driveway, stepped on the brakes and the pedal went straight to the floor, no brakes. He steered into a tree.
Immediately thereafter, the brakes were back to normal, and have been since. Not low on fluid, was actually topped up two days before the incident.
I can't think of what could be intermittent about the system.
Steepness of the hill? Maybe one circuit in the master cylinder has been bad for a while, and somehow the other circuit was affected by the hill?
Brake failure light has been on for some time. 3 or 4 years I suppose.
Any thoughts?
