AC recharge S90-V90 1997

1997 960, no AC as of late, I am assuming it simply needs a recharge
(as my wife's V70 needs a compressor, a $1200 fix!)

Can anyone suggest an over the counter re-charge kit?
And is it a basic, fairly simple DIY job?
Anything else I might need to know ging forth??
