Crackling 1in. trim any way to fix? 200

I have a 85 244TI with the black 1in. trim that goes around the car. Is there anything that you have used like some kind of paint? It's crackling just like the black tape used under the side windows.
I removed the black tape a few years ago but don't know what should be used on the trim. Has anyone used some kind of paint or something?
