Oh but this time there's a fun story to it.
So I'm outside smoking and I finish my cigarette only to hear the phone ringing. Excited that maybe it's an employer calling me for a job interview, I race over to the phone and answer it. Well it wasn't for a job interview, rather it was my fiancee letting me know the Volvo died at a gas station across from where she was working today. Apparently they failed to inform her that she was to be working at 3 and not 1, but when she drove the car it was (In her words.) "Driving funny." I asked her what it was doing and she said it was struggling to stay running and she managed to get it to a gas station where she put gas in it and left it running. When she came out after pre-paying for the gas, it was dead and when she went to start it, it started and quickly died. My heart sank as I knew what it was - the in-line fuel pump has been making a that distinct humming noise (As in "replace me.") for quite some time now. Thankfully I pulled a good working one from my '83 before I sold it for parts, but I never replaced it because I don't have a damned jack. Is she going to be able to make it home on just the in-tank pump? I told her to wait 5 minutes and then see if it runs since she was driving over 40MPH for 30 minutes which would put a huge strain on the dying fuel pump. I've heard of stories where people were able to limp home on just the in-tank pump but had to wait 5-15 minutes to get the car started again once it died.
Just think, that's twice now this damned car has died on me since I moved from having a shop to fix it and it didn't screw up on me ONCE while having it in Rhode Island. I bet my '86 still starts up every time!
