My 1992 940 has a big leak at the A/C condenser. Don't know yet if it's simply a hose or fitting, or the condenser itself. When I attempted to charge it, I could see it misting all over the front of the car. I printed out the FAQ on replacing the condenser and it looks fairly simple to me. I'm just wondering if I might be getting in too deep.

First of all, where is the best bet for getting a good condenser? I see prices ranging from a low of about $100 to upwards of $300. FCP Groton has them for about $160.

I called a few shops to get estimates on the work. Prices varied widely, from $315 to over $900. A couple said the dryer and orfice tube should be replaced. One guy said the estimate was high because he "might be chasing (blockage?)all the way back to the firewall. Do I need to replace the dryer and orfice tube?

I'm not afraid of mechanical work. I do some of my own and haven't messed anything up yet! (knock on wood!) Just haven't done any A/C work.

Oh... one last question. Filling the system after the installation of the parts... would it be best to take it somewhere for that? I don't have any specific A/C tools that might be required.
