Timing of Evaporator & Compressor Replacement 96 960 ?? 900

I plan to replace the evaporator and compressor in my 95 960 this week with new Volvo. I understand that the oils mixed with the refrigerant lubricate the seals and parts within the system. I am planning to put the evaporator and compressor in with an out of town Volvo mechanic friend, and have the system evacuated and recharged with the proper kind and amount of refrigerant and oil in a very good place in my home town. There may be a delay of several days after install until I can get to the A/C shop for evac and recharge.

Is there any danger of damaging the compressor or evaporator driving the car without any oil or refrigerant in the system? The system was evacuated last year when the compressor failed, and I am told that because there is no pressure in it, the system shuts off. So the compressor clutch pulley should spin fine, but the compressor will not engage.

Is is a risk to driver without the recharge to lubricate the seals, or should I have a charge put in by my mechanic friend, and have it fully evacuated and recharged locally in the days ahead?

Any ideas here?
